Primorje-Gorski Kotar County has many investment opportunities in various areas: transport infrastructure, tourism, medical tourism, business zones, and energetics. The following 12 projects are the most important areas for investment in the region.
Development of the Port of Rijeka
This project involves construction or expansion of the Port of Rijeka in three locations. The project will increase the value of the traffic route and the geostrategic position of the County. The container terminal in Rijeka will have the capacity of 700,000 TEU and the pier will be between 250 and 300 meters wide. The estimated value of the project is 754 million €.
High-Efficiency Railway Line Botovo Rijeka
The 269 km long railway line Botovo-Zagreb-Rijeka will connect the port of Rijeka to Zagreb and thus to Central European countries. The estimated value of the project is 4,7 billion €.
Restoration, Modernization and Development of the Rijeka Airport
The project will reduce the actual seasonal character of Rijeka Airport, enlarge the cargo traffic, attract a larger number of passengers, tourists and business partners, and increase employment. The estimated value of the project is 16 million €.
Extending the Runway, Expansion of Apron and Construction of the Terminal
The Lošinj Airpost is registered for domestic and international traffic, and is therefore of very great importance for the whole island of Lošinj. The project will increase the capacity of landings on Mali Lošinj, attract more travelers, tourists and business partners, and increase employment. The estimated value of the project is 29,2 million €.
County Sports Center Platak
The overall objective is to build a mountain tourism center with sport, recreation and other types of facilities to enable year-round use. The estimated value of the project is 150 million €.
Automotodrom Grobnik - Superbike World Championship
Grobnik Automotodrom – Auto-moto Racing Track is located along the A6 Rijeka – Zagreb motorway. It provides a good traffic connection with the rest of Croatia and central Europe and gives a direct access to the motor vehicles coming from the country or abroad. The venue will contribute to the entire tourist offer of the Kvarner Region.
In the first place, the Grobnik Auto-Moto Racing Track is used by fans of car and motorcycle racing who combine riding on the track with having a good time in the touristic neighbourhood.
After the construction of buildings, the standard of the Grobnik Automotodrom will be increased, thus giving support to the development of auto-motorbike industry, organization of seminars, safe driving schools etc.
The estimated value of the project is 9,6 million €.
Health Care Centre Veli Lošinj
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County intends to revitalise the Health Care Centre in Veli Lošinj by reconstructing and expansion the existing buildings. With regard to the organisation and quality of its services, the respective Health Care Centre can be easily compared to the similar centres throughout Europe and even beyond. This project aims to raise the quality level of the secondary health protection and all the related services.
The estimated value of the project is 15 million €.
Miklavja Intermodal Logistic Center
The logistic center development is planned on an area of 160 ha, with the possibility of further expansion. Thanks to its position, spatial potential as well as its direct connection to European transport routes, the logistic center provides development of various entrepreneurial projects (logistics and distribution centers, production facilities, business services, transport etc.) to a wide circle of investors.
The estimated value of the project is 1 billion €.
Industrial Zone Bakar
Industrial zone Bakar is the most developed commercial zone in the Republic of Croatia. It has a total area of 500 ha, of which 40% of space is still open for new possibilities and 130 operational business entities that employ more than 3.500 workers.
The Zone has an excellent geostrategic position/short distance to Slovenia, Italy and Austria/, has direct connection to the highway Zagreb-Rijeka, is near to the port of Rijeka and port of Bakar, Rijeka Airport on the island of Krk which is at 20 km distance.
Railway track passes through the industrial zone. The construction /grading/ of the plateaus with complete infrastructure create the preconditions for increasing competitiveness of the regional economy by attracting investors in the commercial zone in order to expand production capacity, provide new employment options, apply new technologies, export, etc. by launching new entrepreneurial initiatives. The estimated value of the project is 9,5 million €.
LNG Terminal on the Island of Krk
It is estimated that the demand for natural gas in the Balkan countries will double by 2020, to 11 billion m3 a year. By building the LNG terminal, Croatia would satisfy the increased demand for natural gas and stimulate economic growth. The estimated value of the project is 800 million €.
Wind Energy in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County
The Primorje Gorski Kotar County has been identified as a suitable area for wind energy exploitation. The north-east and south-east wind directions are typical for the whole coastal area, while southwest wind is typical for the Kvarner bay.
Professional studies have been carried out and, by a multidisciplinary approach, 14 suitable locations for the construction of wind farms have been determined, out of which 5 have been chosen to be nominated in the County’s Spatial plan, which will greatly facilitate the investments to potential investors.
The estimated value of the project is 1,4 million € per MW of installed capacity.
Solar Energy in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County: The county of Primorje and Gorski kotar has located 4 potential island locations and 1 location in costal area of mainland. Locations are appropriate for instalations up to 50 MW of Solar PV Farms. Maximum power per location is limited to 10 MW.
The Primorje Gorski Kotar County has been identified as a suitable area for solar energy exploitation. Professional studies have been carried out and, by a multidisciplinary approach, 5 potential suitable locations for the construction of solar farms have been determined.
The locations will be drawn in the County’s Spatial plan, which will greatly facilitate the investments to potential investors. Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency are a significant component of the Primorje Gorski Kotar County’s development and are pointed out in all of the County’s strategic documents.
The County’s goal is to achieve an energy sustainable development, where renewable energy sources hold a high position. The estimated value of the project: between 1,2 and 1,5 million € per installed MW of power.
